Police have confirmed that two people were detained and the investigation is ongoing following an incident near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, involving rapper Offset.
A representative for Offset confirmed to Rolling Stone that the rapper was shot.
“We can confirm Offset was shot and is currently at the hospital receiving medical care,” said the spokesperson. “He is stable and being closely monitored.”
The Seminole Police Department released a statement saying they “are aware of an incident that occurred at a valet area after 7 p.m. Monday” outside of the Florida casino that “resulted in non-life threatening injuries to an individual who was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.” The department added that police were “on site immediately and the situation was contained quickly.”
The incident comes more than three years after Takeoff, a member of the rap trio, died at the age of 28 on Nov. 1, 2022, after he was shot in Houston. Following his death, Offset shared a tribute to his bandmate and cousin. “The pain you have left me with is unbearable,” Offset wrote. “My heart is shattered and I have so many things to say, but I can’t find the words. I’ve been going to sleep and waking up hoping that all of this is a dream, but it’s reality, and reality feels like a nightmare.”
On the one-year anniversary of Takeoff’s tragic death, Offset and Quavo remembered Takeoff’s legacy. “The times we spent is priceless what we built in this game they never wanted to give us our flowers we influenced the world,” Offset wrote in a social media post at the time. “I Love you Take you still here with us I just know you are!!!! Migo 4Life!!!!!!”
In the wake of Takeoff’s death, Quavo and his family founded the Rocket Foundation, raising money for on-the-ground community initiatives working to stop gun violence and met with the Congressional Black Caucus and then-Vice President Kamala Harris to speak about the impact that gun violence has had on their lives.
