Paul McCartney and Stephen Colbert Say 'Hello, Goodbye' to The Late Show in Emotional Finale
Paul McCartney joined Stephen Colbert for a heartfelt duet of 'Hello, Goodbye' during the final episode of The Late Show, marking the end of an era.

Paul McCartney brought down the house alongside Stephen Colbert on the final episode of The Late Show, duetting on the timeless classic 'Hello, Goodbye'.
The long-running late-night show concluded on May 21, following Colbert's announcement last summer that CBS was cancelling the show due to financial reasons. The cancellation sparked debate, with some suggesting political motivations due to Colbert's criticism of the Donald Trump administration.
The final week was a star-studded affair, featuring appearances from Bruce Springsteen, Steven Spielberg, Jon Stewart, and David Byrne, leading up to the grand finale with McCartney.
Elvis Costello, Jon Batiste, and Louis Cato joined in on the musical farewell. Show staff paraded through the Ed Sullivan Theatre, creating a joyous atmosphere.
The Late Show Finale
In a poignant moment, McCartney turned out the lights in the Ed Sullivan Theatre, the same building where The Beatles made their historic debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, reaching over 70 million viewers.
During the show, Colbert asked McCartney about his memories of the 1964 performance. McCartney recalled the experience of arriving in America and being told about the show's significance, adding a humorous anecdote about the bright orange makeup they wore.
Earlier in the week, Springsteen praised Colbert, saying he was “the first guy in America who lost his show because we got a president who can’t take a joke”.
Trump responded to the cancellation, stating, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” while Colbert delivered a sharp retort on his show.
McCartney is set to release his new solo album, The Boys Of Dungeon Lane, on May 29.
