Sabrina Carpenter Champions LGBTQ+ Community: 'Pop Music Wouldn't Exist Without Them'
Sabrina Carpenter emphasizes the importance of the queer community in pop music, highlighting the support and collaboration she experiences with her LGBTQ+ friends and colleagues.

In a recent interview with Perfect, Sabrina Carpenter shared her heartfelt appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community and its profound impact on pop music.
During the interview, conducted by fashion mogul Marc Jacobs, Carpenter was asked about the significance of having a queer audience as a pop star.
"I don’t think pop music would exist if it wasn’t for the queer community," Carpenter responded. "I don’t think some of our greatest pop stars would exist if it wasn’t for the queer community."
She continued by acknowledging the LGBTQ+ individuals in her life, stating, "I feel so deeply connected. I mean, some of my greatest friends and collaborators and artists that I know are a part of the queer community or are just so celebratory of it."
Carpenter also expressed how the community's presence has positively influenced her work, noting that touring wouldn't be as enjoyable without their support.
"I feel so connected and grateful to be able to have them be a part of my journey, to be a part of the world," she concluded. Jacobs, who is openly gay, echoed Carpenter's sentiments, adding, "Life is much more [colorful] and fun with [the queer community]," and, "It’s important sometimes to say it. Especially now."
Carpenter's support for the LGBTQ+ community is well-documented. Through her partnership with the non-profit PLUS1, she raised over $1 million for mental health initiatives, LGBTQ+ rights, and animal welfare last year. The Sabrina Carpenter Fund became PLUS1's fastest-growing artist fund to date.
She has also used her platform to showcase LGBTQ+ artists. Last August, she featured openly queer, Academy Award-winning actor Colman Domingo in her "Tears" music video. Inspired by The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the video featured Domingo as Carpenter’s drag mother. At the VMAs, she performed alongside drag artists and trans dancers holding signs advocating for trans rights and support for local drag scenes.
Carpenter is scheduled to headline Coachella on Friday (April 8). There is anticipation that she might invite drag artists from her previous performances to join her on stage for what she has described as "her most ambitious show ever."
