The Temper Trap Returns After a Decade with New Album 'Sungazer'
The Temper Trap announces their first album in a decade, 'Sungazer,' marking a creative resurgence after individual pursuits and growth.

The Temper Trap, who scored big in the 2010s with hits like “Sweet Disposition” and “Love Lost,” are back! Their highly anticipated fourth album, Sungazer, is set to drop on July 10, Rolling Stone can exclusively reveal.
Following the release of Thick as Thieves in 2018 and a subsequent world tour, the band members took a step back. Dougy Mandagi, the lead singer, relocated to Berlin, immersing himself in the city's electronic music scene before returning to his native Indonesia. Toby Dundas, the drummer, established a recording studio and composed film scores. Jonathon Aherne, the bassist, launched a solo project from America, while guitarist Joseph Greer dedicated his time to teaching.
According to a press release, The Temper Trap "tentatively" reconvened in the studio after a four-year hiatus from touring and writing. Collaborating across continents, they exchanged demos and reunited in Melbourne for studio sessions.

"With time apart and much personal growth from us all, Sungazer feels like it’s captured the most pure collection of music we’ve ever made," the band shared in a statement. "We had more fun making this record and in the writing room than on any of the previous records we’ve done. We’re in a great place creatively and in our friendships, we’re closer than ever. Being back into the studio together really felt like coming home."
The album announcement follows the band's recent announcement that they will be supporting Muse on their North American tour this summer, as well as The Temper Trap’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where they performed their single “Giving Up Air.”
The band has already previewed Sungazer with the singles “Into The Wild” and “Lucky Dimes.” They are also releasing the title track. Mandagi describes “Sungazer” as a heartfelt tribute to his son: “Sungazer is a song I wrote as a declaration to my little boy Ziggy before he was born,” said the singer. “The lyrics are a promise to him, to be with him throughout his life.”
