The xx Announce First Show in Eight Years: A Mexico City Reunion

The xx are officially back! The beloved indie-pop group has announced their first live performance together in almost eight years, sending waves of excitement through their fanbase. The show is scheduled for April in Mexico City.

The trio, whose last performance together was in 2018, had already confirmed appearances at major festivals like Coachella and Primavera Sound this year. However, they recently teased fans with news of their “first show back in a while,” slated for April 4, preceding their festival commitments.

The band confirmed that the highly anticipated performance will take place in the Mexican capital at the Pepsi Center WTC. In an Instagram post, they shared their excitement: “It’s been a while since our last show together as The xx. In 2026, we share our music with you all live again... This is the start of a next chapter together, and there’s no better place to return than in front of our Mexican fans. We’ve always felt a deep connection to Mexico – the warmth, the openness, the energy from the crowd.”

They concluded their message with gratitude: “Thank you for waiting for us and we can’t wait to see you soon!”

Last March, the band was spotted in the studio, hinting at new music after Jamie xx mentioned in 2024 that the trio was “having a good time” working on new material. In September of the previous year, they shared rehearsal footage following the Coachella lineup announcement.

At last year’s LIDO Festival, where Jamie xx headlined, he reunited onstage with bandmates Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim.

Since their last album, 2017’s ‘I See You’, each member has been focused on solo endeavors. Romy released her debut album ‘Mid Air’ in 2023, followed by a series of singles, while Sim dropped his first solo LP, ‘Hideous Bastard‘, the year before, releasing two singles last year.

Jamie xx’s second solo album, ‘In Waves’, was released in 2024, featuring his bandmates on the track ‘Waited All Night’.

Speaking to NME about new music from The xx at the BRIT Awards 2024, Romy revealed: “We’re just keeping it really open and we’re up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. That’s all I can say right now.”

‘I See You’ became their second Number One album in the UK and reached Number Two in the US. NME gave the album a four-star review, highlighting Romy’s ballad ‘Performance’.

In November, they shared a deluxe version of their debut album, ‘xx’. They are also involved in Rough Trade’s 50th-anniversary celebrations.
