The xx Return to the Stage After 8 Years with a Career-Spanning Set in Mexico City

After eight long years, The xx graced the stage once more, captivating fans at the Pepsi Center WTC in Mexico City on Friday, April 3rd. The trio, consisting of Romy, Jamie xx, and Oliver Sim, delivered a 19-song set that journeyed through their discography and individual projects, proving their enduring relevance.

The band teased the concert as a "next chapter," and they delivered by diving deep into their catalog. Against a hazy, dark backdrop, they weaved through tracks from all three studio albums: xx (2009), Coexist (2012), and I See You (2018). The show opened with "Crystalised" and closed with "Infinity," with the encore featuring the live debut of "Season’s Run."

Beyond their collective hits, the setlist celebrated each member's solo work. Romy's "Enjoy Your Life," Sim's "GMT," and Jamie xx's contributions, including the Gil Scott-Heron collaboration "I'll Take Care Of U" and "Waited All Night," were all featured. Jamie's solo material received particular attention, showcasing the breadth of his influence on the band's sound. Notably, Waited All Night features both Romy and Oliver Sim and appeared on his 2025 album In Waves.

This performance marked the first of three shows in Mexico City, followed by a string of high-profile festival appearances. The xx are slated to headline Lollapalooza, Primavera Sound, and Outside Lands, as well as perform at Coachella. While a new album hasn't been officially announced, the band has reportedly been working on new material since 2023, teasing fans with studio footage earlier this year. Last year's deluxe edition of their debut album, featuring bonus tracks and a cover of Aaliyah’s “Hot Like Fire,” further fueled anticipation for their next chapter.
