Vince Staples continues to push artistic boundaries with the release of "White Flag," the latest single from his highly anticipated album, Cry Baby. The track delves into heavy themes, addressing ongoing wars, police brutality, and the pervasive inequality faced by Black Americans.
The accompanying music video, co-directed by Staples and Bradley J. Calder, amplifies the song's message. It features Staples calmly painting a giant American flag white, hanging it prominently, and then shooting it repeatedly with an assault rifle – a powerful and provocative statement.

Cry Baby, positioned as the beginning of a more independent phase for Staples, is set to drop on June 5 via Loma Vista. "White Flag" follows "Blackberry Marmalade," another track with a visually arresting, gun-related video, also co-directed by Staples and Calder.
Upon the release of "Blackberry Marmalade", Staples noted the age restriction on YouTube, urging viewers to share it with younger audiences, emphasizing their right to the truth.
Cry Baby distinguishes itself with live instrumentation, giving Staples' new material a rock and jazz-infused feel. His previous album, Dark Times, was released in 2024 on Def Jam and Blacksmith. Furthermore, Season 2 of The Vince Staples Show aired on Netflix, before its cancellation in January.
