In a significant development, Mystikal has entered a guilty plea for third-degree rape charges, according to The Guardian. The rapper was initially arrested in 2022 and faced a slew of charges, including first-degree rape, simple robbery, domestic-abuse battery, and false imprisonment. He initially pleaded not guilty, with a trial date set for March 30.

The guilty plea, entered in the Ascension Parish court in Louisiana, is part of a deal that reduces Mystikal's potential sentence. The original first-degree rape charge carried a possible life sentence. Mystikal, born Michael Tyler, now faces up to 20 years for the third-degree rape conviction. Sentencing is scheduled for June.
Legal representatives for Tyler have not yet commented on the plea.
The charges stem from a 2022 incident where a woman alleged that Tyler sexually assaulted and held her against her will. During a hearing, Sheriff’s Detective Garrett Keith testified that the woman, an acquaintance of Tyler's, visited his home to discuss a financial agreement. The woman reported that Tyler's behavior changed abruptly, becoming violent before the alleged assault. Tyler has been held without bond since his arrest due to his prior criminal history.
Tyler is a lifetime registered sex offender. He was previously convicted of sexual battery for assaulting his hairstylist in 2003, serving six years in prison before his release in 2010. In 2017, he faced another sexual-assault case with charges of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping. He spent nearly 18 months in jail before posting a $3 million bond. These charges were ultimately dismissed by a grand jury in December 2020 after additional evidence came to light.
