Ricky Martin's concert in Montenegro on Thursday night (May 21) faced an unexpected interruption when tear gas was deployed near the stage, according to the Puerto Rican superstar’s representative.
Martin was launching the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour when “an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance,” stated a post from Martin’s publicist, Róndine Alcalá, on Instagram. The statement was released in both Spanish and English.
According to the statement, after Martin left the stage, security personnel and local authorities secured the area, ensuring the safety of everyone present. Despite some team members advising against continuing the concert, Martin insisted on resuming the performance "in order to fulfill his commitment to fans."
Alcalá assured in the social media post's caption: “Ricky Martin and his team are safe and grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro.”
Martin’s next scheduled tour stop is in Moldova on June 12.

During Ricky Martin’s concert tonight in Montenegro – where the artist was kicking off the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour – an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance.
As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage while security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance.
Although members of the artist’s team advised against continuing the performance, once authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return, Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfill his commitment to fans.
The artist will continue his Ricky Martin Live tour with upcoming performances across Europe and additional international dates as scheduled.
