Godflesh Announces End of Live Performances, Final Albums Due to Frontman's Health
Industrial metal pioneers Godflesh are ceasing live performances due to frontman Justin Broadrick's health concerns following surgery. The band plans to release two final albums.

The industrial metal landscape is set to shift as Godflesh announces the end of their live performances and plans for two final albums. Justin Broadrick, the band's driving force, revealed on Instagram that he recently underwent open abdominal surgery for a severe inguinal hernia.
Doctors have advised Broadrick to refrain from shouting or screaming to prevent further complications, effectively bringing Godflesh's intense live shows to an immediate halt. The band is currently working on wrapping up two albums already in progress.
Broadrick elaborated on the medical situation: "I had a huge hernia, and for it to be repaired, I had to endure a 6 inch incision in my groin... If I continue to perform and shout/scream as I do with Godflesh, then I am at high risk for more hernias, and blowing out my abdominal wall entirely. Godflesh live ended the day of my surgery."
The band's penultimate album, titled Decay, is slated for release on Relapse Records this summer, following up on 2023's Purge. The final LP, written over a year ago, is planned for recording near the end of the year. While these will be the last studio releases, Broadrick hinted at the possibility of occasional dub or live albums in the future.

Fear not, music enthusiasts, as Broadrick isn't stepping away from music entirely. He will continue writing and performing with Jesu and JK Flesh, projects that don't demand the same vocal intensity as Godflesh. He also plans to launch a new solo project exploring the heavier and more abrasive edges of music, featuring guitars, electronics, and clean vocals.
This marks a poignant end to Godflesh's influential career, which began in 1988 in Birmingham, England, with Broadrick and B.C. Green. Over the years, they've released nine studio albums, leaving an indelible mark on the industrial metal genre. Their recent European shows last year now stand as their final live performances.
